Sometimes, a single scientific event can genuinely change the way you see your field. I was really happy to attend the Winter School "Tech Fusion in Cancer: Bioinformatics & Optical Sensor Diagnostics" at The German University in Cairo, organized by GARN in collaboration with OSCAR Al and Universität Rostock. What I appreciated most about this event was how naturally it connected different fields like bioinformatics, Al, and bio-optical sensing and showed how they come together in real medical and research applications, especially in cancer diagnostics and personalized medicine. I'm very thankful to the speakers for sharing their knowledge and experience: Assoc. Prof. Dr. Eng. Amir Roushdy, Prof. Dr Mohamed Hamed, Ph.D and PD. Dr. Hugo Murua Escobar. Each talk added a new perspective and helped me see how research ideas move from theory to real clinical impact. The workshops were a big part of the experience for me. The Single-Cell Transcriptomics workshop lead by Assoc.
Prof. Dr. Mohamed Hamed & Dr Asmaa Mohamed Reda gave me a clearer understanding of scRNA-seq analysis pipelines, dimensionality reduction, clustering, and cell-type annotation, while the Machine Learning for Bio-Optical Sensors workshop lead by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Amir Roushdy & Eng. Abdelrahman Adham Almowafy helped me better understand about machine learning fundamentals and neural networks. Most importantly, the experience directly enriched my understanding of biosensor-based detection systems, which is highly relevant to my current project on developing a sensor-based device for toxin detection.
