Question 1:

How is the research in the ARAtronics Center being managed?

The hierarchal order of research groups starts with the Principal Investigator (PI) who is the Assoc. Prof. Dr. Eng. Amir R. Ali managing post-docs, post-docs managing PhD and MSc students, PhD and MSc students managing undergrad students. In ARAtronics research center, A more hands on approach are being used. The PI has one to one meeting with each, and every student whenever needed. A weekly progress meeting is held for each project with the PI. ARAtronics research center focuses on the development of each and every member. An annual student assessment process is implemented to help the student know their weaknesses and strengths for future research and career endeavors. The evaluation processes consist of two parts self-evaluation and a formal evaluation assessed by the PI. The student meets with PI to discuss the points mentioned in the assessment and discuss a future action plan for mentioned weaknesses and strengths to better their professional career.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Eng. Amir R. Ali chooses an open-door policy for all his students, which is enabled due to the proximity of the office, the research lab and students' offices in the C-building.

Question 2:

What is the average time to graduate with the M.Sc. and P.hD. degrees?

The duration of the M.Sc. or P.hD. is primarily dependent on the student’s work. However, the average time is approximately 3-4 years for P.hD. students and 1 year for M.Sc. students. Based on progress of current M.Sc. & P.hD. student’s research, it should stay in this range.

Question 3:

What is the selection criteria for the M.Sc. and P.hD. students? and how can an irrelevant research experience affect the selection process?

Although prior research experience is beneficial, many abilities may be transferred. A specific field is less significant than the fact that a student conducted their research properly. It must be taken into account that admission choices take a variety of variables, not only the field of past study.

Question 4:

The research in the group covers many different fields, and it seems like many of the projects require a student to know several fields. I'm worried that I am not prepared to join the group. Will this hurt my chances of being accepted? How will I be successful in the group, if I'm not prepared?

One of the key benefits of the ARAtronics center, it is a virtual melting-pot of talents. The PI actively recruit from a wide range of disciplines, and knowledge is acquired within the ARAtronics team. The team members teach each other, collaborate together and help each other with each other projects. ARAtronics Research Center aims that during graduate school the student both deepen their knowledge in one field and expand their skill set into another. If the student doesn't push themselves and get outside of their comfort zone, they are doing something wrong. ARAtronics Research Center main objective in choosing M.Sc. & P.hD. students are to find smart, talented students who are not afraid to try something new and who work well on an interdisciplinary team. ARAtronics Research Center, students with different academic backgrounds need to work together. This type of collaboration is very different from working within a single field. As such, ARAtronics current team members are involved in the new student selection process.
